John D. Wright, PhD, P.E., is Chief Engineer of Wright Consulting Company (www.wccoilgas.com) in Golden, Colorado. He has more than 45 years of domestic and international oil and gas experience in property evaluation, production engineering, reservoir engineering, and coalbed natural gas development, and has been an expert witness in more than 40 oil and gas industry cases.
Dr. Wright has been a principal in three petroleum engineering consulting firms for a total of 35+ years and taught Petroleum Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines for eight years. He has worked as a pumper, and a petroleum engineer, is working interest owner and lessee as well as a mineral interest owner and lessor. He has worked on 6 continents and taught numerous short courses on oil property evaluation and other subjects throughout the world. He has been heavily involved in the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers for many years including being the chief technical contact and presenter at three economic software symposiums. In 2018, he became the 21st Honorary Life Member of SPEE.
He has published a number of technical papers and is a sought-after speaker at industry conferences. Wright, along with his co-author, Dr. Robert S. Thompson, wrote Oil Property Evaluation, which has been in circulation for over 30 years.
